Shopska-style cheese (sirene po shopski) is ready in 25 minutes and gives you 45 g of protein per serving: Bulgarian white cheese baked with eggs, tomatoes and bell peppers in a clay pot, with MEALUP Unflavored sprinkled on at the end. A classic of Bulgarian cooking, familiar to anyone who has stopped at a mountain mehana (tavern).

Small clay pots hold the heat for a long time, so the cheese stays soft to the last bite. Keep the yolk a little runny, so it mixes into the melted cheese as you eat.

MEALUP Unflavored goes over the hot cheese and eggs as soon as the pots come out of the oven. It has no flavor of its own, so the dish keeps its classic taste and simply gains protein.

Ingredients

Serves 2

Preparation

  1. Prepare the potsGrease two small clay pots with oil. Crumble the cheese coarsely and spread it over the bottom of each pot.
  2. Add the vegetablesDice the tomato and bell pepper and scatter them over the cheese.
  3. Crack in the eggsCrack one egg into each pot, taking care to keep the yolk whole.
  4. BakeBake the pots at 200°C for 12 to 15 minutes, until the cheese softens and the egg is cooked but the yolk is still runny.
  5. Sprinkle and serveTake the pots out of the oven. Divide 2 servings (60 g) of MEALUP Unflavored between them, 1 serving (30 g) per person, and season with black pepper. Serve right away, piping hot, with bread on the side.

Tips

  • No clay pots? Small baking dishes or ceramic ramekins work too.
  • For a spicier version, add a slice of hot chili pepper on top of the vegetables before baking.
  • Take care not to overbake the eggs: the yolk should stay soft.
  • Serve with a slice of bread for dipping into the melted cheese.

MEALUP Unflavored goes over the hot cheese and eggs as soon as the pots come out of the oven. It has no flavor of its own, so the dish keeps its classic taste and simply gains protein.

Protein is calculated from USDA FoodData Central and the MEALUP label (24 g in 1 serving).
